With the Fourth of July holiday in the rearview, it’s not uncommon for retailers to shift focus from summer sales to Back-to-School (BTS) in their circular promotions as early as mid-July. Market Track covers all of the latest promotional activity throughout the year and we’re here to deliver you some insights on which retailers are already advertising Back-to-School deals in 2017.

Lidl was one of the earliest to run BTS promotions this year, but they’re also not limiting themselves to grocery items. The German-owned retailer is associating Back to School with “back to style” and offering promotions on apparel in their latest circular. Lidl featured limited-time prices on child’s t-shirts, shorts, tank tops, and more.

A few days later, on July 9, we noticed more retailers running BTS promotions. Best Buy showcased deals on laptops, tablets, phones, and wearable electronics with the message “Before you start school, start here.” Staples used their circular to show potential shoppers how to go “back to school like a pro” with offers on traditional school supplies, like pens, crayons, colored pencils, and glue. Meanwhile, Target took a mixed approach with offers on both school supplies and apparel in their latest circular.
